A few words from the architects
Our approach to the design of the houses at Briston Grove was informed by 2 key aspirations. The first of these was the integration of the four new houses into the existing street scene of Briston Grove and the second was the desire to produce an internal arrangement of spaces that provides the future owners with home suited to contemporary living.
The integration of the new houses into the street scene involved a re-interpretation of the prevailing house type in the street. Through the choice of materials and by continuing the steeply sloping roof level gables of the adjoining houses, the new houses sit comfortably with the neighbouring properties. However, the contemporary nature of the houses is displayed to the street through the angled bay windows at upper ground floor level and the detailing of the main entrance and garage doors at lower ground and upper ground floor levels.
The internal arrangement of spaces separates the interior of the new houses into distinct spatial types. The living, kitchen and dining areas are formed from a flowing open plan volume linking both upper ground and lower ground floor levels. This space is further extended by the double height glazed screen onto the secluded garden which acts to integrate these internal and external living spaces.
The bedrooms are arranged on the upper floors of the new houses and take the more traditional cellular form.
